 Dr. Jason A. Griggs, associate professor, vice chair and graduate program director in biomaterials science, began serving a two-year term as president of the Academy of Dental Materials in October 2006. The international research specialty society with 366 members publishes the journal Dental Materials and sponsors an annual research conference.
Since assuming his new role in October, Griggs has been busy replacing outgoing officers, negotiating a new five-year publishing contract for the academy’s journal and making plans for the academy’s new website, which will incorporate new capabilities.
Griggs currently is raising funds and organizing the society’s next scientific conference to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in October 2007. The conference topic will be tissue engineering scaffold materials. Griggs says he has received commitments from an attractive slate of six invited speakers on the topic.
